TYPO! features some of New York’s most riveting and original musicians, combining complex and hyperactive compositions with a reckless abandon and group fervor which can take a sharp turn at any given moment. 

Led by drummer and composer James Paul Nadien, TYPO! is a vehicle for his cutting-edge compositions which are equal parts modernist, progressive rock, and free jazz. His unique percussive and compositional language create rhythmic and melodic hooks that are trance and dance-like in nature. Nadien has worked with countless iconoclastic artists in avant-jazz and free improvisation, and continues to carve out his vision of music for the 23st century. 

He has assembled an all-star team of musicians with Sabrina Salamone on violin, Hans Young Binter on piano, and TJ Borden on cello. 

Salamone can oscillate between the sublime and the utter ridiculous on the violin, with great energy and grace. Her solo work in this ensemble is reminiscent of a concert violinist gone mad, with amazing intervallic leaps with serious flair. 

Borden’s background in contemporary cello music and free improvisation makes him the perfect foil for Nadien’s music. He brings a grounded low-end to the ensemble and a deep, concentrated level of execution, while at the same time remaining free enough to play blistering lines and push the group into new territory. 

Binter’s pianism holds the group together, playing many parts at once in a virtuosic manner. The interlocking webs of the compositions are handled with Binter’s deep sensitivity and powerful touch at the piano.
