Federico Balducci and Sandy Ewen present an immersive evening of sound, texture, and deep listening, expanded through custom interactive lighting, video, and live audio processing. Visuals for the performance will be handled by Derick Noetzel, working in dialogue with the sonic material to create a responsive, evolving environment.
Drawing on the legacy of musique concrète and experimental music, the program moves beyond traditional ideas of composition, treating sound—whether acoustic, recorded, or fragmented—as its primary material. Rather than focusing on melody or harmony in a conventional sense, the works foreground timbre, resonance, and gesture, shaping listening as something physical and continuously unfolding.
The program features Federico Balducci’s The Narcissus Trance (2026), selected works by Eric Satie, and Juan Sorroche’s Four Pieces from Central America (2020). Together, these pieces reflect more than a century of approaches to sound as material, linked by shared interests in repetition, reduction, perception, and formal abstraction.
Across intimate acoustic textures and constructed sonic environments, the evening integrates live processing, looping systems, interactive lighting, and video. Rooted in experimental traditions such as musique concrète, the performance reframes the concert as an active space of perception—where sound, image, and light interact in real time, and listening becomes a process of discovery.
