Program
Charlotte Layec (Canada/Canada) & Camille Rosset Balcer (Canada/Canada): Almanach

The duo Asclépiades presents “Almanach”, 40 min, for Bb clarinet, bass clarinet, small percussions and electronics in real time, composed and performed by Charlotte Layec and Camille Rosset-Balcer.

Asclépiades takes the form of a clarinet-bass clarinet duo with electronics on tape and in real time. The “Almanach” project is a musical performance lasting 40 minutes. Through 4 distinct and semi-improvised atmospheres, the group appropriates an unusual sound universe by exploring a complicit and innovative musical language. The duo’s music explores both bare acoustic spaces and complex and layered soundscapes, where the timbres of the instruments are modified using analog and digital effects. The omnipresence of organic sounds from different sources (tapes, vocal microphones, clarinets, percussions) gives a unique side to our project: we present an interweaving of contrasting and singular textures that, although magnified by electronics, never stray far from the physical world, creating a hypnotic and ritualistic sound space, but always sought after. In terms of writing, the electronic tapes, triggered in real time, follow a pre-determined canvas. Our clarinet interventions are both written and semi-improvised. Concretely, Asclépiades is an artistic space where we allow ourselves to go beyond the usual limits of the use of the clarinet in classical and contemporary repertoires, making them overlap.
