June 15, 2026, 7:30 PM | Quintessential America: “Music of Seeger, Monk, Mingus, and more”

Sylvan Winds celebrates American voices in a vibrant and diverse program of tantalizing wind music! With jazz, blues and improv as the inspiration for many of these works, you’ll hear from composers of the past – Gunther Schuller and Ruth Crawford-Seeger – and from exciting composers of today – William Healy, Brittany J. Green and Marc Mellitts. Sylvan’s own Kathy Halvorson has arranged ballads of jazz legends Thelonious Monk and Charles Mingus, and you won’t want to miss the newly-discovered wind sextet of Eric Dolphy! America’s identity and spirit shine brightly throughout this dynamic showcase of woodwind gems.
