Sean McFarland (baritone electric guitar), Matt Sargent (electric guitar), and Trevor Babb (classical guitar), perform James Romig’s trilogy of solo works: The Complexity of Distance (2022, commissioned by Mike Scheidt of YOB; released on New World Records and Relapse Records), The Fragility of Time (2022, commissioned by Matt Sargent; released on A Wave Press), and The Distortion of Memory (2024, commissioned by Trevor Babb; release upcoming on Edition Wandelweiser Records). Critics have described Romig’s work as “rapturous slow-moving beauty” (San Francisco Chronicle), “a steamroller driving down a highway paved with skulls” (Burning Ambulance), and “developing with the naturalness of breathing” (The New Yorker). His Still, for solo piano, was a finalist for the 2019 Pulitzer Prize.
