Through the ACOUSTIC+ series, percussionist Josh Perry and pianist Yumi Suehiro explore the diverse sonic possibilities of contemporary music—from traditional acoustic instruments to cutting-edge technologies.

Yumi Suehiro, a pianist and marimbist born in Osaka, Japan, began her musical studies at age six and quickly rose to national prominence. She has won multiple awards, including first prize at the Kobe International Competition as its youngest recipient. Suehiro has performed at major venues such as Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, Steinway Hall, and Symphony Space, premiering numerous new works. As a core member of ensemble mise-en, she has performed Ligeti’s Piano Concerto at New College of Florida and continues to champion contemporary repertoire. She holds degrees from Lehman College (CUNY), where she studied with Peter Vinograde, Morris Lang, and John Corigliano, and the Manhattan School of Music, where she earned her Master’s under Zenon Fishbein. In addition to performing, Suehiro teaches at Lehman College and its Continuing Education division.

Josh Perry is a New York-based percussionist acclaimed by The New York Times as a “creative percussionist” and recognized for his dedication to contemporary and interdisciplinary performance. He has appeared as a soloist at the Kroumata Percussion Center (Sweden), Transplanted Roots (Mexico), Audio Training Manual (South Korea), and Tokyo Opera City Recital Hall. Perry is a member of Iktus Percussion, ensemble mise-en, and Hotel Elefant, and frequently collaborates with groups such as Talea Ensemble, Mantra Percussion, and Wavefield Ensemble. He has premiered over 100 works and recorded for labels including New Focus, New Amsterdam, and Albany Records. A sought-after educator, Perry has given workshops across the U.S. and internationally, and currently teaches percussion at Molloy University. He holds a DMA from Stony Brook University and a Bachelor’s from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst.
